About the Play

Bedroom Farce is a comedy that unfolds over the course of one night, set in the bedrooms of three different couples. The story revolves around the chaotic influence of Trevor and Susannah, a dysfunctional couple whose marital troubles spill over into the lives of their friends, disrupting their relationships and routines.

CASTING

It’s a rehearsed reading, so all performers are welcome, and we strongly encourage actors of all backgrounds and identities to audition. Our primary focus will be on each actor’s individual performance and the chemistry between scene partners rather than matching individual profiles with that of the character to be portrayed.

ROLES

  • Ernest & Delia – The older couple, parents to Trevor. Ernest is long-suffering and traditional, while Delia is fussy yet confident. They provide a contrast to the younger couples and end up hosting Susannah in their bedroom after a dramatic night.
  • Nick & Jan – Nick is injured and stuck in bed, insecure and short-tempered. Jan, his wife, is dominant and intellectual, but their relationship is tested when Trevor—her ex-boyfriend—reappears.
  • Malcolm & Kate – Malcolm is playful but immature, while Kate is sweet-natured and kind. They host a housewarming party that gets disrupted by Trevor and Susannah’s marital issues.
  • Trevor & Susannah – The most dysfunctional couple. Trevor is self-obsessed and insecure, while Susannah is neurotic and highly strung. Their relationship troubles spill over into the lives of the other couples, causing chaos throughout the night

REHEARSALS

First read through will be on the evening of Friday 25 July with rehearsals on the afternoon of Saturday 26 July before the performance that evening.  It is essential that the full cast is available for the whole of each phase.

GENERAL

We are committed to improving diversity in our casting and, unless stated for artistic reasons, we aim to actively adopt an inclusive casting policy.

This is an amateur production. You do not need to be a member of PTC to audition, but actors and crew will need to become members for £30 a year by direct debit. A £15 show fee will also need to be paid by all actors in the production. We encourage you to become a member of PTC anyway, even if not cast.

Our company is run by volunteers and we expect all actors cast in a play to volunteer for Front of House duties at least once a year. Our shows could not go up without our Front of House volunteers.

If you have any additional questions please reach out to the director Richard Seedhouse at rseedhouse50 at gmail dot com
