About the Play

A spellbinding two-hander that explores the infinite possibilities of love, choice, and chance through the lens of quantum physics.

When Marianne, a cosmologist, meets beekeeper Roland, their romance unfolds, or fails to unfold, in different forms across multiple parallel universes.

Each time it plays out differently - funny, tragic, tender, or tense - revealing how small moments can lead to vastly different futures.

Both intellectually exhilarating and deeply human, the play showcases the absurdity, beauty, and fragility of human connection through the multiverse of one relationship. 

CASTING

This will be an open casting process. That means we are not casting based on any preconceived notions of gender, ethnicity, age, or sexuality. 

All performers are welcome, and we strongly encourage actors of all backgrounds and identities to audition. Our primary focus will be on each actor’s individual performance and the chemistry between scene partners.

Actors must be comfortable with intimacy, including physical closeness, romantic gestures, and nuanced emotional vulnerability. A physical intimacy coordinator will be present as required.

ROLES

• Marianne, academic in quantum cosmology at Sussex University. Mercurial, fiercely intelligent, mischievous humour masking deep vulnerability
• Roland, urban beekeeper. Warm, understated, earthy charm, emotionally sincere with flashes of dry wit.

A note about the nature of the play: Constellations is a unique, nonlinear and iterative piece. Many scenes repeat or mirror each other with subtle variations in tone, emotion, and intention. As such, it requires strong memorization skills and a willingness to explore nuanced shifts in delivery. This script may not be best suited for actors who find repetitive line structures especially challenging to learn.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals will commence in mid-July. Actors should expect to rehearse three times a week initially and more often in the two weeks before the show opens.

GENERAL

We are committed to improving diversity in our casting and, unless stated for artistic reasons, we aim to actively adopt an inclusive casting policy.

This is an amateur production. You do not need to be a member of PTC to audition, but actors and crew will need to become members for £30 a year by direct debit. A £30 show fee will also need to be paid by all actors in the production. We encourage you to become a member of PTC anyway, even if not cast.

Our company is run by volunteers and we expect all actors cast in a play to volunteer for Front of House duties at least once a year. Our shows could not go up without our Front of House volunteers.
