ABOUT THE PLAY

"Are there things that you've done that you're ashamed of? Things that - if they came out - would break your life in half?"

Daniel is a dedicated teacher suddenly confronted by a charge that six years previously he sexually assaulted a female pupil during a school trip to Ypres.

The play charts how Daniel’s life gradually disintegrates as a result of the allegation. Suspended by school, he faces repeated interrogation by his lawyer, finds his hitherto devoted wife starting to doubt his innocence and sees his seven-year-old daughter traumatised by the investigation. Once the police make a formal arrest, Daniel is vilified in the popular press, undergoes trial by social media and finds himself publicly branded a paedophile.

The play questions how well we actually know those closest to us and explores how shameful secrets, thought to be long buried, can come back to bite us.

A studio production running from February 18th to 22nd 2025 with a cast of seven characters (three principals), this is an absorbing and thought-provoking play offering interesting and challenging parts for actors and – hopefully – engaging post show discussion for the audience!

PLEASE NOTE
We are committed to improving diversity in our casting, and unless stated for artistic reasons, we aim to actively adopt an inclusive casting policy.

This is an amateur production. You do not need to be a member of Putney Theatre Company to audition, but actors and crew will need to become a member of Putney Theatre Company to take part in the show for £30 a year. A  £30 show fee will also need to be paid by all actors in the production. We encourage you to become a member of PTC anyway, even if not cast.

Our company is run by volunteers and we expect all actors cast in a play to volunteer for Front of House duties at least once a year. Our shows could not go up without our Front of House volunteers.

Photography on this website is provided by numerous members over the years. In particular we would like to thank: Ben Copping, Martin Jessop, Rich Evans and Steve Lippett who have contributed so much to capturing our productions in such amazing quality.
