by David Eldridge
Directed by Ben Clare

Production dates:
14-18 May 2024, in the Studio

Laura's thrown a housewarming party at her new flat. Danny is the last man standing. It's meant to be isn't it? Or is it? They're both single. They both really like each other. But can they take the leap?

A brilliantly observed, funny, poignant play about being fortyish and single and being open to falling in love again. Award winning writer David Eldridge's play include Under the Blue Sky, In Basildon and Festen.

"It's the tentative (anti) romance for 21st century London life and it , quite simply, magnificent... never less than utterly refreshing."
Evening Standard

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Laura, 38
Laura is self-assured and successful. She's just bought a new flat and got on the property ladder early. Her friends are jealous of her single life of independence, dates, travelling and embarrassing nights out, but she wants something much more from life - connection and family.

Danny, 42
Danny is cocky, a bit of a joker, but sometimes lacks confidence in himself. He's from Essex and lives at home with his Mum. He's not had the easiest time and really wants another chance at being with someone, but is reluctant to let his heart be broken again. Drinks Peroni. Spilt ketchup on his shirt.

REHEARSAL PERIOD

Rehearsals will take place from the start of March at 7.30pm, 3 times a week - probably two evenings for 2 hours Monday-Thursday, as well as around 3-4 hours rehearsal on a Sunday.  Sometimes there may be a need to rehearse on different days and times and more frequent rehearsals in the fortnight before the production week.

PLEASE NOTE

This production features some intimacy, which is affectionate but not sexual. The characters undress to their underwear. There will be a female intimacy coordinator working on the production alongside the director.

We are committed to to improving diversity in our casting, and unless stated for artistic reasons, we aim to actively adopt an inclusive casting policy.

This is an amateur production. You do not need to be a member of Putney Theatre Company to audition, but actors and crew will need to become a member of Putney Theatre Company to part in the show for £30 a year. A £30 show fee will also need to be paid by all actors in the production. We encourage you to become a member of PTC anyway, even if not cast.

Our company is run by volunteers and we expect all actors cast in a play to volunteer for Front of House duties at least once a year. Our shows could not go up without our Front of House volunteers.

Photography on this website is provided by numerous members over the years. In particular we would like to thank: Ben Copping, Martin Jessop, Rich Evans and Steve Lippett who have contributed so much to capturing our productions in such amazing quality.
