Veiled

Written and Performed by

Annabel Miller

 5th & 6th April, 8pm

3rd & 4th May, 8pm

This exuberant one-woman-show is a mix of comedy, poignancy and reveals and split into four acts linked by songs.  The play examines different arenas in the lives of four fifty-something year-old women at breaking points: workplace attitudes to women, menopause, parenting, mental health, relationships and coercive control. Whilst each act takes one as a main focus to build the narrative, these themes emerge and re-emerge throughout the performance. Laugh-out-loud funny and bleakly sad in equal measure, it is a stumble through mid-life crisis after crisis. The ‘veiled’ in the title refers to the fact that each woman has hidden issues or is suffering something that they are keeping secret. The veil for each character slips by the end of their piece sometimes with a very dark twist.

In praise of 'Veiled':

"In her exemplary writing debut, Annabel Miller has created something that richly deserved the standing ovation it received at the close."

"Fastidiously observed, Miller makes much of the narrative amusing and relatable... yet doesn’t shy from shifting to some more emotionally hard-hitting moments."
