Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are left penniless after their wealthy half-brother cheats them of their fortune. They are forced to leave the comforts of Norland Park and relocate to a cold Devonshire cottage. When a devilishly handsome stranger arrives at Barton Cottage with the rain-drenched Marianne in his arms, the Dashwood girls are convinced that their fortunes are changed forever. Whilst the sensible Elinor pines for quiet Edward Ferrars, impulsive Marianne loses herself in the idea of her hero on horseback, and for a girl who feasts on poetry and music, what else is there to do in Devon but dream of rescue?

In Jane Austen’s much-loved classic, we follow the fortunes of the two Dashwood sisters as they chase their dreams from Devonshire to London and back.

AUDITION DATES

You can audition on Sunday 2 April at 2pm or Monday 3 April at 7.30pm. If successful, you will be asked to attend recalls on Wednesday 5 April at 7.30pm

CHARACTERS

Some actors will likely play more than one role, which will be part of the theatrical convention of the production. Ages below are a suggestion.

This is the suggested allocation of roles and playing ages:

Audition pieces will be sent out prior to the date of your audition. Please note  - you do not need to memorise! 

PLEASE NOTE

We are committed to improving diversity in our casting and, unless stated for artistic reasons, we aim to actively adopt an inclusive casting policy.

This is an amateur production. You do not need to be a member of PTC to audition, but actors and crew will need to become members for £25 a year by direct debit*. A £25 show fee will also need to be paid by all actors in the production. We encourage you to become a member of PTC anyway, even if not cast.

Our company is run by volunteers and we expect all actors cast in a play to volunteer for Front of House duties at least once a year. Our shows could not go up without our Front of House volunteers.

* Please note that from 6 April 2023  member fees will be increased to £30 a year.
